Tight end George Kittle did not practice after suffering a knee sprain during Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the earliest he would practice would be on Friday but also noted that his tight end could play on Sunday even if that doesn't happen.
Cornerback Richard Sherman on Wednesday landed on injured reserve. He will have to miss at least the next three games, making his potential return on October 11 against the Miami Dolphins, at the earliest.
It was revealed on Wednesday that cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon is in the concussion protocol, an injury he sustained on Sunday. He also did not practice.
The good news is that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and center Ben Garland were full participants in practice, as neither appeared on Wednesday's injury list. That is a good indication that both might be available on Sunday. Shanahan had initially said both would be limited.
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Jets, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
