The San Francisco 49ers (2-1) escaped MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with back-to-back victories but several injuries. Most of those came during a Week 2 matchup against the New York Jets. On Sunday, San Francisco beat the New York Giants 36-9.

The Philadelphia Eagles still have not earned a win. They tied the also-winless Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday with a final score of 23-23. Doug Pederson and his squad will continue to look for their first win of the season when they travel to Levi's Stadium to play the 49ers.

San Francisco opened the week as six-point favorites in the upcoming matchup, according to BetMGM.

Nick Mullens started at quarterback against the Giants and, depending on Jimmy Garoppolo's status, could do so again against the Eagles. The 49ers' first practice of the week will take place on Wednesday, and we will learn more then. Garoppolo suffered a high-ankle sprain during Week 2.

The statuses of several other players are still unknown. Cornerback Richard Sherman, who is on short-term injured reserve with a calf strain, will miss the game but is eligible to return for Week 5. Running back Raheem Mostert (knee) missed Sunday's game against the Jets, as did tight end George Kittle (knee), cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring), defensive end Dee Ford (back), linebacker Dre Greenlaw (thigh), and others.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is expected to start practicing again this week. While head coach Kyle Shanahan has not ruled him out for this weekend's game, a report from NFL Network stated that a Week 5 return is more likely.

"I'm optimistic he'll be back next week," Shanahan said last week. "He had a real good week. Last week, hitting the rehab hard with all those guys, and just being able to watch him work out here on the side, he looks real good running routes, and he's been able to do it without pain. So I expect to get him back next week.

"Whether that means the game on Sunday, I don't know. That's stuff that I don't even think about until I see how he looks on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday."
