Usually, 49ers alumni would be in attendance. This year, 95 alumni will "attend" as fan cutouts, arranged in the shape of "SF" in section 109.
49ers players selected defensive lineman Arik Armstead as this year's Perry/Yonamine Unity Award for his off-field community efforts and work with the Armstead Academic Project. A $10,000 donation will be made to his charity of choice, the Players Philanthropy Fund.
This season, Armstead has made an effort to spread awareness of social injustice and systematic discrimination. He begins each of his media availability sessions by discussing issues that are important to him in the hopes of contributing to change.
The Perry/Yonamine Unity Award is named after former 49ers players Joe Perry and Wally Yonamine, who demonstrated the power of unity to make a difference on the field and in the community.
Last year's winner was offensive lineman Ben Garland, and running back Raheem Mostert was the recipient the year before.
In honor of the team's alumni, 49ers players will be wearing their all-white throwback uniforms, resembling those worn during the 1994 Super Bowl season. The uniform features white jerseys and pants, the iconic drop shadow number, three stripe sleeve, blank and red pant stripes, a throwback oval decal on the side of the helmet, and a throwback wordmark on the front bumper of the helmet.
