Alexander also wished the 49ers luck in tonight's game against the Green Bay Packers.
"I want to thank the @49ers for everything!" Alexander wrote via Instagram. "The organization was legendary ima miss everything about it! The block will always be hot. [L]egendary luck tonight! See you guys soon!!"
Soon, Alexander will see his former teammates again. Very soon. The 49ers' next opponent after the Packers is New Orleans. The two teams will play at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on November 15.
"That's some of the hard decisions you have to make," head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Tuesday. "I love Kwon Alexander. It broke my heart to have to tell him what we did yesterday, but you've also got to understand what that does. Sometimes, you've got to make those decisions, even though it's very tough."
The 49ers traded Alexander to the Saints in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso and a conditional 2022 fifth-round pick that becomes a 2021 selection should Alexander hit on playing-time incentives.
"The energy, the leadership, the honesty, the practice habits, all of it," defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said. "Kwon is one of the more genuine human beings I've ever been around. He's been nothing but perfect, in my opinion, when you talk about free agents coming from another team and getting the contract he got and what he became. You can't ask for much more."
Meanwhile, wide receiver Dante Pettis doesn't seem too heartbroken about being waived by the 49ers and then claimed by the New York Giants.
