Steve Young, a BYU alum, obviously enjoyed hearing that and believes Wilson would be a good fit for his former NFL squad.
49ers general manager John Lynch joined KNBR on Friday and praised his current quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, who is out until at least Week 15 with a high-ankle sprain. Before that, though, he discussed the reports and speculation surrounding San Francisco's interest in scouting college quarterbacks.
"We look at them all," Lynch said on the Murph & Mac show. "I know there was a story about Adam going out. Some of that was true. Some of that wasn't. What I will tell you is we're scouting hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of players each year, and we try to be as thorough as possible."
Which portion of Miller's report is Lynch stating is true and which part or parts are false? The Bleacher Report analyst stated three items in his brief notes within a larger draft-focused feature. One, the 49ers are investing serious time and resources into scouting college quarterbacks. Two, Peters traveled to scout BYU's Zach Wilson. And three, he also traveled to scout Alabama's Mac Jones.
Lynch did confirm that Peters traveled to Boise, Idaho.
"Adam did go out to Boise State, I believe, to watch a Boise State-BYU game," Lynch said. "And that seemed to have garnered a lot of attention, but we're doing our jobs. You prepare for everything."
That's when Lynch discussed the "elephant in the room" — Garoppolo.
"Here's what I know about Jimmy Garoppolo, and I think I've been consistent," Lynch continued. "We're a better football team when he's out there. We win a lot of games when he's out there. We struggle to win without him.
"So, people can try to pick his game apart, and I do believe a lot of this year, Jimmy probably hasn't played up to his standard. I think a lot of that, he's been somewhat compromised with his health since he had that high-ankle in the New York Jets game.
"Think about prior to the ankle injury in that game. I believe he was 12-of-14. He was our player of the game. We have a lot of belief in Jimmy."
