Sunday was Samuel's first time back on the football field since he suffered a hamstring injury on October 25. He was sore from the game, so the 49ers decided to give him some extra time to recover.

"Just being smart with him," Shanahan told reporters via Zoom before Thursday's practice. "... No setback. Just still sore from the game, especially after traveling yesterday and stuff, being on a plane. We don't want to get him out there with what's happened to him this year, and have him go full-speed, and risk anything with the hamstring."
Shanahan added that cornerback K'Waun Williams is still dealing with his ankle injury and isn't likely to practice this week, which would make his availability for Monday night's game against the Buffalo Bills unlikely, too. Williams suffered his injury on November 5 against the Green Bay Packers.
The 49ers have been hesitant to put Williams on injured reserve a second time this year because it would mean the cornerback would be unable to return this season.
