The San Francisco 49ers got a break with defensive tackle D.J. Jones' injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and the team had feared the defender suffered a high-ankle sprain, which would have ended his season. That wasn't the case, though.

"It wasn't a high-ankle sprain," Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday, "so we're very fortunate that he'll play again for us this season. But it's not healthy enough to go (in practice) today. I'm holding out hope for it this week, but it will be a day-to-day thing."

Jones suffered the ankle injury during the first half of Monday night's 34-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills, was listed as "questionable" to return, and then downgraded to "out."

Jones has 14 tackles, six tackles for a loss, two sacks, and a pass defensed through 11 games this season. He landed on injured reserve last season due to a high-ankle sprain suffered that December.

Shanahan also noted that the following players would not practice on Wednesday.
