The Pro Bowl seems to be more of a popularity contest, sometimes with bigger names overshadowing more deserving players in the selection process, which involves fan, player, and coach voting. There won't be a game played this year due to COVID-19, but there will still be selection honorees.
Four San Francisco 49ers players are among Pro Football Focus' list for the NFC roster — names the analytics site feels are deserving of official selections. They are fullback Kyle Juszczyk, tackle Trent Williams, linebacker Fred Warner, and safety Jimmie Ward.
Juszczyk is the only fullback on the list for his conference.
"The most heavily used fullback in the NFL is also the best," wrote Sam Monson. "Juszczyk is closing in on 400 snaps of offense this season and has earned a PFF rushing grade of 85.9 across 13 carries."
Williams has returned to form after a year away from football and has been "burying guys in the run game," says Monson. He is the second of three tackles listed. The others are David Bakhtiari of the Green Bay Packers and Duane Brown of the Seattle Seahawks.
Bobby Wagner of the Seattle Seahawks and Eric Kendricks of the Minnesota Vikings edge Warner in Pro Football Focus' grading system.
"Fred Warner is right behind [Kendricks] (87.8) and has allowed a passer rating of only 76.8 when targeted," wrote Monson.
Ward is also third on the list of players within his position group, behind John Johnson III of the Los Angeles Rams and Budda Baker of the Arizona Cardinals.
"Jimmie Ward is backing up his impressive 2019 campaign with another excellent season in 2020," wrote Monson.
