ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this morning that the 49ers signed Gould to a two-year, $7.25 million fully-guaranteed contract extension, keeping the 38-year-old kicker with the team through the 2022 season.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters before today's practice that the 49ers are bringing in former Minnesota Vikings practice squad kicker Tristan Vizcaino, who will be able to practice on Friday and possibly play on Sunday during the team's Week 17 finale against the Seattle Seahawks.
Shanahan joked that had they known Gould would land on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the kicker would not have been re-signed.

The 49ers also announced that the team has opened the practice window for offensive lineman Tom Compton. He has been on injured reserve since December 12. Shanahan said there is a chance Compton plays on Sunday.
The reserve/COVID-19 list has been created for a player who tests positive for COVID-19 or has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. If a player falls into either of these categories, his club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Clubs are not permitted to comment on a player's medical status other than referring to the roster status and may not disclose whether the player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19.
