Earlier this week, head coach Kyle Shanahan offered another vote of confidence for Garoppolo.
"Yes, I do believe Jimmy is going to be our quarterback next year," Shanahan told reporters when asked about the quarterback's future.
It sounds like Lynch and Shanahan are in sync when it comes to Garoppolo.
"Jimmy is our quarterback," Lynch said. "We're really excited about that. He's a heck of a scout-team quarterback these days. Unfortunately, we can't get him in the game, but he's looking good on the scout team. We're excited to be working with him moving forward."
Lynch and Shanahan have said all the right things about Garoppolo, giving the impression that the quarterback will be back with the 49ers in 2021. Of course, some fans will be quick to point out that talk in December doesn't always mean that much. After all, the team's brain trust was insistent last year that DeForest Buckner would be a big part of San Francisco's future. That didn't work out as they hoped or indicated.
Garoppolo last played during Week 8, when he suffered his second high-ankle sprain of the season. The quarterback has now missed 22 games over the last three seasons due to injuries. Last season, a healthy Garoppolo helped guide the 49ers to a Super Bowl. It was the quarterback's first full season as a starter.
