Wilson apparently feels like the 49ers would be a good fit for him. The quarterback appeared on BYU TV and was asked which NFL system he felt might be best suited for him.
"Yeah, I haven't watched a ton of specifics with NFL teams as far as what offenses they're running," Wilson responded. "One, just off the top of my head, is the 49ers, just because I'm very familiar with what coach Kyle Shanahan does and the system they have in place, and I think I'd fit in well there."
The response was captured by Javier Vega of the 4th & Gold Podcast.
Wilson capped off his collegiate career by passing for 425 yards and three touchdowns during BYU's 49-23 victory over UCF in the Boca Raton Bowl.
49ers general manager John Lynch confirmed that the team's VP of player personnel, Adam Peters, attended a November matchup between BYU and Boise State to evaluate Wilson. However, Lynch added that the team scouts many quarterbacks each year, and fans shouldn't read too much into Peters' trip.
San Francisco has a highly-paid starting quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo. Of course, many will tout availability as the best ability, and Garoppolo has missed 23 games over the past three seasons due to injuries.
H/t to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area for the find.
