San Francisco 49ers safety Jimmie Ward recently asked his teammate, cornerback Jason Verrett, whether he'll return to the team in 2021. The two appeared on Instagram Live, and the exchange was shared by our friends over at @TheSFNiners (h/t to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports).

"You coming back?" Ward asked Verrett while laughing.

"We gonna see," Verrett responded. "We gonna see. We gonna see."

That's when Ward campaigned for the 49ers' general manager to make sure Verrett is taken care of financially and re-signed.

"I'm pretty sure word is going to get out to John Lynch and [head coach Kyle Shanahan]," Ward continued while adding that he knows Verrett is interested in returning.

Many questioned Verrett's re-signing last offseason, but the oft-injured cornerback stayed healthy all year and was a pleasant surprise. He appeared in 13 games last season, compiling 60 tackles, two tackles for a loss, two interceptions, and seven passes defensed.

Verrett is one of several 49ers defensive backs who were playing on the final year of their contracts. Richard Sherman, Jaquiski Tartt, K'Waun Williams, and Ahkello Witherspoon are just some of the names scheduled to become free agents at the start of the new league year. The salary cap-strapped Niners will have some difficult decisions to make this offseason.
