The San Francisco 49ers announced that running back Jeff Wilson Jr. has been re-signed to a one-year contract. He was scheduled to become a restricted free agent and will now become an unrestricted free agent next year.

The 49ers initially signed Wilson as an undrafted free agent out of North Texas in 2018. He carried the football 126 times for a team-leading 600 yards with seven rushing touchdowns while adding 13 receptions for 133 yards with three receiving touchdowns — all career-highs — through 12 games in 2020. The running back's 10 total touchdowns this past season led all 49ers players.

Wilson, 25, has 971 rushing yards on 219 attempts with 11 rushing touchdowns through his three NFL seasons, per Pro Football Reference. He also appeared in one postseason contest, registering one reception for 20 yards.

As for the other 49ers running backs, Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon, and fullback Kyle Juszczyk are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents. Austin Walter will be an exclusive-rights free agent.

McKinnon has already stated that he does not plan to return to the team.
