The San Francisco 49ers will be on hand for former North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance's pro day today, per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. The team representatives won't include general manager John Lynch or head coach Kyle Shanahan, though.

Lance (6-4, 226) is expected to be among the first four quarterbacks selected in the draft. He appeared in just one game in 2020, throwing for 149 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception while adding 143 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground in a 39-28 victory over Central Arkansas.

Lance completed 66.9 percent of his passes for 2,786 yards with 28 touchdowns and no interceptions through 16 games as a sophomore in 2019.

The New England Patriots are re-signing quarterback Cam Newton to a one-year deal, per the Boston Globe.

There was a lot of speculation that New England was waiting to see what happens with Jimmy Garoppolo, eagerly seeking a reunion with the 49ers quarterback. Newton, who spent last year with the Patriots, was assumed to be among the team's backup plans.
