San Francisco drafted Thomas out of Stanford with the No. 3 overall pick in 2017 and was the first draft pick of the Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch era. The defensive lineman registered two tackles in two games with the 49ers in 2020 before suffering a season-ending torn ACL. He has recorded 95 tackles and six sacks through his four NFL seasons.
Thomas (6-3, 280) recently said he is ahead of schedule in his rehab and expects to be ready for the upcoming season.
"I'm feeling really normal and feeling strong," Thomas said over the weekend on NFL Network. "I really believe I'm ahead of schedule. I'm excited. I'm hungry to get back on the field. I miss it more than ever. So, I'm just getting my body ready, getting ready to go."
Thomas is 25 years old, and hoped to land with a team that will take advantage of his ability to play along the interior of the defensive line.
"I would definitely say that I like playing inside," Thomas said. "That's where I made my bread and butter at Stanford. I like playing from that 3-technique. I think I can be real disruptive there. I can get into guards. I mean, I can be a great pass rusher off the edge there (too). I really like the inside, but I also think that's what makes me special—my versatility and to move to the outside if you need (me) to. But inside, I feel like is where I can make my money."
