The Jaguars made it official shortly after Rapoport's report.
Beathard joins a quarterback room that is expected to add Trevor Lawrence in the draft. The Jaguars currently own the No. 1 overall pick. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently speculated that the 49ers might be interested in current Jacksonville quarterback Gardner Minshew via trade as a potential backup for Jimmy Garoppolo.
San Francisco made Beathard a third-round selection out of Iowa in 2017. He completed 66-of-104 attempts (63.5 percent) for 787 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions through six games with the 49ers in 2020.
Beathard, 27, has completed 58.6 percent of his passes for 3,469 yards with 18 touchdowns and 13 interceptions through his four NFL seasons. He did not appear in a game during the 2019 season.
The 49ers currently have Garoppolo, Josh Johnson, and Josh Rosen as the only quarterbacks under contract.
All-Pro tight end George Kittle said farewell to his friend and teammate of the past eight years. He and Beathard were together for four seasons each at Iowa and with the 49ers.
Wrote Kittle via Instagram: "Hard to wrap my head around us playing together for so long and we won't be anymore...but I had a blast the entire time and [I] know I have a brother for a lifetime. Much love and good luck!!"
