Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows at this point? We are getting so much speculation from every direction.
So, what is Eisen hearing about this No. 3 draft pick that the team will be making in just over a week?
"I'm hearing it's Trey Lance," Eisen said on Wednesday. "That's what I'm hearing now. I'm hearing the kid is supremely talented, physically, and neck-up, smart. And also, (he) really wants to learn. Already talking to people, knocking on doors, (asking), 'What can I learn now?' That's what I'm hearing. I'm hearing he's proactively searching out the individuals that evaluate to find out what's up."
Eisen added with a smile: "I'm hearing it might have been Trey Lance all along. How about that?"
On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan, general manager John Lynch, and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello attended Lance's pro day in Fargo, North Dakota. After being overtaken for about a week, Mac Jones of Alabama once again has the best odds to be the 49ers' pick at No. 3, followed by Justin Fields of Ohio State, and then Lance rounding out the top three.
Eisen noted that he had former NFL executive turned analyst Louis Riddick on his show this week, and Riddick felt San Francisco should draft Lance.
"Highest ceiling out of all of them, built like a linebacker," Eisen said of Riddick's comments. "I'm hearing it's (Trevor) Lawrence (at one), I'm hearing it's (Zach) Wilson (at two), and that is that. And then all I'm hearing is Trey Lance."
Eisen paused and laughed before adding, "Eight days from now."
