Bill Michaels of the Big Show Network reports that the San Francisco 49ers, at some point, offered the Green Bay Packers the No. 3 overall pick, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, and other players for nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Packers turned down the offer.
The validity of this report is unknown. Understandably, it is being received with some skepticism.
Ben Volin, a respected reporter for the Boston Globe, shared the news, which is why it caught my attention. Obviously, the New England Patriots have an interest in what happens between the 49ers and Garoppolo.
Tonight, San Francisco is expected to draft Garoppolo's replacement with the No. 3 overall pick. That could be Mac Jones of Alabama, Trey Lance of North Dakota State, or Justin Fields of Ohio State.
While Garoppolo is 24-9 as a starter for the 49ers, including the playoffs, he has missed 23 games over the past three seasons, bringing his durability into question.
There was a report earlier this week that the 49ers are expected to try to move Garoppolo before or during the draft. Multiple sources reported today that San Francisco has no plans to trade Garoppolo right now but that multiple teams are expected to inquire about the quarterback.
The situation seemingly remains fluid in Santa Clara.
