Staley says he is now a healthy 250 pounds, 50 fewer pounds than his listed playing weight.
"When I retired one year ago, I set the goal of losing 50 lbs," Staley wrote via Instagram. "I can happily say I have accomplished my goal and now a healthy 250. Thanks to @onepeloton and @theharvesthoney for keeping [me] focused and on track to accomplish this goal. While this is very out of character for me to post something like this. Wanted to hopefully motivate someone to do the same this year. Excited for what's next and can't wait to see who the Niners draft the rest of the weekend!"
Staley announced his retirement on April 25, 2020. That led the 49ers to trade for veteran tackle Trent Williams to replace the six-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman.
"As an offensive lineman, you're always known as this big, humongous, unathletic blob," Staley told ESPN's Emily Kaplan in August of 2020. "Offensive linemen get casted in a movie, and they're always 500 pounds. Then you get the opportunity to be healthy again, and all of the effort you used to put into football, you put into that. It gives you a focus once you retire. It's a little bit vain, but I'm starting to see abs that I've always wanted. And it's kind of exciting."
