A new year, a new number for Jaquiski Tartt. The safety re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers in March and announced today that he is switching his jersey number from No. 29 to No. 26.

Running back Tevin Coleman wore No. 26 over the last two seasons. He has since signed with the New York Jets.

Tartt returned to the 49ers on a one-year deal after testing the free-agency waters.

"We are very excited to have Jaquiski back with our team," general manager John Lynch said via a statement after the signing became official. "Jaquiski is an extremely skilled and versatile player who provides excellent communication skills for our defense.

The 49ers made Tartt a second-round selection out of Samford in 2015. He recorded 30 tackles, one tackle for a loss, an interception, and four passes defended through seven games in 2020 before landing on injured reserve due to a toe injury.

"At this point, I'm doing well, and surgery went well," Tartt told reporters in March. "Rehab has been going well. But when it happened, I thought I was probably going to miss a game or two. To get the news that it was a Grade-3, it was tough for me."

Tartt, 29, has 301 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, four interceptions, four sacks, and 17 passes defensed during his six NFL seasons.
