While fans loved the nice gesture from their new rookie quarterback, who was drafted No. 3 overall two weeks ago, there was one aspect of the video that sparked some conversation and a little negative feedback. Lance recorded the video while wearing the hat of the World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
That was a no-no in the eyes of some Bay Area fans, who are also likely to be San Francisco Giants fans and see the team down south as a bitter rival.
Here are some replies from fans after we retweeted Lance's video.
Larry Krueger of KNBR had a more "balanced" reaction to seeing Lance wearing the hat of a rival team, considering the alternative.
For much of the month between the 49ers trading up to No. 3 overall and the start of the draft, Mac Jones was the heavy betting favorite to be selected by San Francisco. He was the least popular quarterback option among the top three possibilities.
David Lombardi of The Athletic summed up fan reactions, like Krueger's, with the following tweet.
Trey, be you and love what you love. Win a few championships, and no one will care what hat you wear during your free time.
