The New York Giants made Richburg a second-round selection out of Colorado State in 2014. San Francisco signed him to a five-year, $47.5 million contract on March 14, 2018, and he started 15 games in his first season with the team.
Richburg, 29, suffered a torn patellar tendon during Week 14 of the 2019 season, landed on injured reserve, and missed the final stretch of San Francisco's impressive run that ended with an appearance in Super Bowl LIV. The offensive lineman started the 2020 season on the reserve/physically-unable-to-perform list and did not appear in a game.
The offensive lineman has had several surgeries since that injury. Following his knee surgery, Richburg underwent shoulder surgery, which was credited for his setback in 2020. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that the center recently underwent hip surgery as well.
Richburg has 79 game appearances through his seven NFL seasons and started in all but one of those appearances.
