In a media session after the start of organized team activities (OTAs), head coach Kyle Shanahan gave an update on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's health, specifically his ankle, which kept Garoppolo out for most of last season. Said Shanahan, "[Jimmy's] been great," adding that "his ankle seems totally healed" heading into the start of the 2021 season.

Health has been an issue for Garoppolo as he missed 10 games last season, and has played more than six games in only one season as the 49ers quarterback. Hearing that he is fully healed and back on the field is a positive sign for the 49ers.

Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have been emphatic in their defense of Jimmy Garoppolo as their starter, electing to keep him for the upcoming season despite drafting quarterback Trey Lance with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Garoppolo, Lance, and the other San Francisco quarterbacks took the field Tuesday as the OTAs began. Currently, the 49ers have Garoppolo, Lance, Nate Sudfeld, Josh Rosen, and Josh Johnson as the quarterbacks on the roster, so it will be interesting to see what moves will happen in the quarterback room before the 2021 season begins.
