Two San Francisco 49ers players are hard at work. One is rookie quarterback Trey Lance, who is taking what he learned from the team's offseason program and honing his skills. He is working with a seasoned veteran, too.
The following Instagram videos popped up of Lance tossing footballs to wide receiver Mohamed Sanu (h/t to Patrick Tulini for the find).
Last week, offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel shared that the team was coaching Lance on the fundamentals during their time together, making sure the rookie knew what to work on during the time off.
"Really preparing him for his 40 days off where he can work on his own and preparing him to compete in training camp," McDaniel said.
This is Sanu's second stint with the 49ers. He was briefly with the team last season and caught just one pass. The veteran receiver is fighting for a roster spot this offseason. Sanu impressed his coaches during the offseason program, and McDaniel believes that Sanu will have no problem earning a role with San Francisco if that carries over into training camp.
"You can tell that he doesn't expect anything to be given to him, and he's trying to earn his spot on this team," McDaniel said. "So it was very exciting to see him perform. He was doing very well. And, if he comes back to training camp in that same shape, he's going to be a guy that is going to be tough to beat out for that final 53 (man) roster."
