It looks like Shanahan was tossing footballs over the weekend while spending time with one of his former offensive linemen, Joe Staley. The throw was enough to impress Staley and other onlookers (h/t to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports).
While the video was posted on July 4, it is unknown if the Shanahan-Staley reunion actually took place on the holiday. However, Staley did leave his own comment in response to the video.
Staley retired from football on April 25, 2020, following the 49ers' playoff run that ended with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV. He spent his entire 13-year career with San Francisco, the team that drafted him No. 28 overall in 2007.
Staley was named to six Pro Bowls during his illustrious career, and remains a fan-favorite.
