A video showcasing a throw by Kyle Shanahan went viral on July 4. It showed the San Francisco 49ers head coach tossing a football from a rooftop with former offensive lineman Joe Staley watching. Shanahan ended up hitting his target — a pizza oven across the street.

Shanahan was asked about the throw on Tuesday, and the coach sounded very proud of the accomplishment. He confirmed that he hit the pizza oven on his first throw.

"My best athletic moment of my life," Shanahan joked. "All the stars were aligned at the right time."

A reporter asked Shanahan to take them through that moment, and he gladly did so.

"Well, since you asked, I'll describe it all," Shanahan said as general manager John Lynch laughed next to him. "We were just messing around. It was the Fourth of July, and we were up there. We were on my buddy's rooftop, and we had a football, and I was just felt like I could throw at the time.

"I was asking everyone where they wanted me to throw it, and they said, 'That pizza over right over there.' And I go, 'I'm going to hit this. Film this.' And they go, 'Yeah, right.' But I hit it somehow. I won one of my buddy's golf clubs off of him. It was awesome.

"We were going to take the whole thing down — the pizza oven — but now we're keeping it up, as like a monument. And I will never attempt it again. I'll just be one-for-one."

Maybe Shanahan can get some reps in practice this week if rookie quarterback Trey Lance doesn't sign his contract soon.
