Did not practice:
- DE Samson Ebukam (leg)
- TE MyCole Pruitt (calf)
Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair left practice during team drills with what appeared to be a right knee injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after practice that the preliminary examinations have the team "pretty optimistic" about the injury, though.
Samson Ebukam received the day off after experiencing some leg soreness. Cornerback Tim Harris left practice due to some "tightness" in his leg. The coaches had him sit out team drills as a precaution. The defender watched the rest of practice from the sideline with his left leg in a wrap.
After missing the last two practices, third-year wide receiver Jalen Hurd, who has yet to step on the field for a regular-season game, returned to practice.
Tight end George Kittle returned after enjoying Saturday off. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw also returned after being sidelined due to a blister on his foot.
David Shaw and the rest of the Stanford coaching staff were on hand to observe today's practice as guests of the team. The 49ers also have an official NFL referee crew at practices this week.
Before practice, it was rookie offensive lineman Jaylon Moore's turn to hype up the fans in attendance.
Lance's first three plays during red zone drills all resulted in touchdowns. The first two were passes to fullback Josh Hokit and wide receiver Mohamed Sanu. The third was a touchdown run. (Sacramento Bee)
Hokit wasn't the only fullback to haul in a touchdown pass. Later, Kyle Juszczyk got into the end zone on a pass from Jimmy Garoppolo. (The Athletic)
Linebacker Fred Warner had an interception off Garoppolo for the second consecutive practice. This time, it was on a shorter pass in the red zone. "QB tried to feather ball to Ross Dwelley but ball was short and Warner jumped up and had another easy pick," wrote Matt Barrows. (The Athletic)
Lance also threw an interception during team drills. It was his first of training camp. "LB Jonas Griffith with a leaping grab at the goal line in red-zone drills," wrote Chris Biderman. (Sacramento Bee)
Lance's next pass was an overthrow toward Kittle. He finished 7-of-11 passing during team drills. Garoppolo tossed touchdown passes to wide receivers Sanu and Kevin White, finishing the day 13-of-18 during team drills. (Bay Area News Group)
Other notes
While Griffith hauled in Lance's first interception of training camp, it is worth noting that the linebacker nearly had one on a similar pass during last Friday's outing.
Shanahan discussed Ford's return to team drills.
"It was the schedule," the coach said after practice. "You map it out for everybody, and you hope it goes that way. You do one day at a time. We talked to him about it yesterday on the day off, and he came in this morning, that was the plan, and he stuck with it. And I think he got about six reps out there today. It was nice. I didn't realize he was out there. I was looking downfield, but I felt him off the edge go right by me."
On one snap, offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey stopped Ford with a hard shove to his back. No issues resulted. That is a good sign that Ford's injuries woes may finally be behind him. The defender appeared in six snaps and jumped offsides twice as he works to get used to going at full speed again. (San Francisco Chronicle)
