San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch joined Adam Schefter's podcast this week to discuss his well-deserved induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. Of course, a whole interview couldn't go by without Schefter asking Lynch about his team's current quarterback situation.

The 49ers have a veteran quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo set to start Week 1 — and with some luck, the entire season. However, the team also made an aggressive trade this offseason, moving up nine spots in the draft to select Trey Lance at No. 3 overall.

Schefter asked Lynch to assess what he has seen from his 21-year-old rookie so far in training camp.

"He's looked tremendous," Lynch shared. "He really has. I think what's been most impressive about Trey, everyone wants to talk about physical traits, but the way he approaches his job, he's a pro in its truest sense."

Lynch added that he's been impressed with the amount of work his young quarterback put in during the team's 40 days away before training camp.

"We've got a lot of guys who love the game and are willing to do the necessary things to prepare, and I think Trey really is an embodiment of that. And he's looking good on the field too."

Lance's presence has also had a positive impact on the team's veteran starter.

"The other thing is that [Lance] being here, I think, has brought the best out of Jimmy Garoppolo," Lynch shared. "Jimmy's a big-time competitor, and we haven't played a game yet, but in practice in the offseason and practice in training camp thus far, he's played his best football since he's been here, and he's played a lot of good football. Just look at his record.

"People say, 'Well, what do you do if they're both playing great?' That's another great problem to have, and we'll deal with that when it comes."

Added Lynch: "[Garoppolo] really is playing at a high level, and I don't want to talk about it too much, as I'm doing so in front of millions of people, but it's something everyone's recognizing. He's really playing at a high level, and that's what competitors do. When they're challenged, they rise to the occasion, and I think he's doing a great job of that."
