Fans are hoping to see a lot of this in Trey Lance's future. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is hoping to see some of it too, knowing that the rookie quarterback brings something that his offense has lacked for a long time — the added threat that the quarterback might take off with the football.

Lance showed a little bit of that during today's joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers in Costa Mesa, and you can hear the excitement for the future in the crowd's reaction.

It helps that the 49ers have a strong Southern California fanbase. Members of The Faithful have represented the team well during the two practices and will probably do so again at SoFi Stadium on Sunday when the two teams play. The Southern California portion of the fanbase is excited to get its first live look at Lance.

Today was Lance's first extended work this offseason with the first-team offense. Head coach Kyle Shanahan hinted that as a possibility while speaking with reporters yesterday.

"We'll see if we [give him reps with the ones] tomorrow," Shanahan said. "If I do, it would be more trying to get him some reps versus (Joey) Bosa and Derwin (James) and some of those other guys too because there's definitely a difference."

On the flip side, Jimmy Garoppolo received the opposite reaction from 49ers fans, much to the delight of Chargers fans, for this much-discussed poor decision that resulted in a Derwin James interception. Garoppolo was in a red-zone drill and facing 3rd-and-goal from the two.
