San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan stated that the plan was to have Nick Bosa start participating in team drills this week. Until now, the third-year defensive end had only been going through individual drills.

As expected, Bosa is taking part in team drills today. The Niners are preparing for their third and final preseason game, a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders at Levi's Stadium.

The 23-year-old pass rusher is returning from a torn ACL suffered during Week 2 of last season. In 2019, Bosa recorded 47 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, 25 quarterback hits, nine sacks, an interception, two passes defensed, and a forced fumble on his way to being named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

"Nick's good to go," Shanahan told reporters before today's practice. "He's going to get some team reps today."

What does the coach want to see from Bosa this week?

"It's more mental, to me, with that," Shanahan responded. "He looks great on the side, doing all the football movements in individual and stuff. To me, it's more of his mind, which all guys need coming off a serious injury like that. Nick's ready for football. He just needs to go through some reps. He's back in there, and I hope he feels good about it at the end of the day."

Shanahan added that safety Jaquiski Tartt (toe), who was activated off the physically-unable-to-perform list today, will take part in practice this week. The hope is to have him play on Sunday against the Raiders.

Offensive tackle Trent Williams returned to practice this week. He was sidelined last week due to a knee injury. Wide receiver Jalen Hurd (knee) also returned to the practice field.

The head coach also commented on pass rusher Dee Ford's progress.

"Dee Ford's been good," Shanahan said. "He's been on a steady pace. I think he's gotten enough reps in this camp. We'll keep continuing with the same pace for these three days, and I'll decide [if he'll play] Sunday at the end of the week for him and pretty much all the players. But we're good with the pace he's been on."
