"It just felt great to be out there again," Lance told reporters after the game, "and it obviously feels good to be 1-0."
Lance had a setback following the 49ers' preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders. He suffered a chipped bone in the index finger of his throwing hand and missed about a week's worth of practice. Lance doesn't believe the injury was too detrimental to his development.
"I only missed a couple of practices," Lance said after the 49ers' 41-33 win. "Obviously, it sucks not to be able to practice but learned a lot and got to watch Jimmy [Garoppolo] and Nate [Sudfeld] operate at a really high level at practice in those few days. Practicing against our defense is [something] I don't like to miss.
"I don't like to miss any days, obviously, but I don't think [the injury] slowed me down at all. But for me, it was just I had to take time and find different ways to get reps. And our video guys do a great job with different ways to watch film, visual reality, and things like that."
The 49ers had indicated that Lance's finger swelled up after the injury. However, the quarterback feels that may have been slightly exaggerated and wasn't too concerned about his status.
"It really didn't swell up too bad," Lance said. "It was just like range-of-motion and just kind of getting that back. And obviously, there was some inflammation in my finger, but it's all good now, thankfully."
