Quarterback Trey Lance returned to practice for the first time since sustaining a knee sprain during Week 5's loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel was among the several players who did not practice. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't sound too concerned.
"He can't go today," Shanahan said before practice. "He was out there in walkthrough and stuff. I'm pretty optimistic he'll be alright [for Sunday], though."
Shanahan and the Niners are less optimistic about defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw. The second-year player, who has been battling through a knee injury, isn't even with the team right now. Kinlaw may require season-ending surgery.
"Right now, he's down in [Los Angeles], trying to figure that out, whether he's going to get surgery or not, and what kind of surgery," Shanahan said. "And I think we'll get some news on that pretty soon."
Defensive tackle Maurice Hurst suffered a significant calf injury during practice last week, and safety Jaquiski Tartt is expected to be out a few weeks after sustaining a bone bruise in his knee during Sunday's loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Tackle Trent Williams remains day-to-day with his ankle injury.
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Bears, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
