Garoppolo suffered an ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) tear and a chipped bone in his right thumb during last Thursday night's loss to the Tennessee Titans. Many questions whether he could suit up for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans.
Garoppolo is confident he will be out there, keeping rookie Trey Lance sidelined.
"I played the entire game [against the Titans] with it, basically," Garoppolo said. "So it's really just about being able to grip the ball, do the things I normally do, and we're going to go test those out today, see how it feels, and go from there. But yeah, I feel confident [I can play]."
The injury occurred when Garoppolo was sacked in the second quarter of the team's 20-17 Week 16 loss. Garoppolo remained in the game and even led a game-tying touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.
Garoppolo acknowledges that was difficult, given his inability to use his thumb very much. He couldn't grip the football or throw normally. However, Garoppolo feels he adjusted to the injury as the game continued.
"The pain, it's not going anywhere, so I know what that feels like," Garoppolo added. "It's just being confident, going out there, and being able to do what I normally do with the football. We'll see where it gets us but I feel good right now with it."
Garoppolo added, "Today, we'll get out there, throw it around, and see how it feels."
