The San Francisco 49ers have released the list of inactive players for their Week 17 matchup at home against the Houston Texans. These players will not suit up for Sunday's game.

Inactives:

On Friday, the 49ers activated quarterback Nate Sudfeld from the practice squad. He will serve as Trey Lance's backup with Jimmy Garoppolo out. On Sunday morning, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported that Garoppolo is expected to have surgery on his injured thumb after the season. The 49ers quarterback suffered a torn ligament and chipped bone in his right thumb during Week 16's loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Lance will make his first start since Week 5 and his first career start at Levi's Stadium.

Running back Elijah Mitchell, listed as "questionable" on Friday, is active for the first time since Week 13. He remains the team's leading rusher and needs just 53 yards to set the franchise record for rushing yards by a rookie.

On Saturday, San Francisco activated punter Mitch Wishnowsky from the reserve/COVID-19 list, making him available. The team also promoted tight end Tanner Hudson from the practice squad to the active roster, activated linebackers Mark Nzeocha and Curtis Robinson, and waived running back Brian Hill.
