On Sunday, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan lost one of his most valuable assistants, offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. The Miami Dolphins are naming McDaniel their new head coach, replacing Brian Flores.

Since McDaniel is multiracial, the 49ers will receive two third-round compensatory picks under the league program to reward teams for developing minority coaches. The first will come this year, and the second in 2023.

The 49ers are projected to own nine selections in the upcoming draft, with the first coming in the second round. San Francisco traded away its first-round picks in the next two drafts to move into position to acquire Trey Lance last year.

According to Over The Cap, the 49ers are projected to own the following nine selections in the upcoming draft. The overall position of many picks will shift downward once the NFL hands out compensatory selections. Please note that this is just a projection for now. A lot could happen between now and the start of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The compensatory picks in the seventh round would come for the losses of defensive linemen Solomon Thomas and Kerry Hyder and quarterback C.J. Beathard last offseason.

The losses of wide receiver Kendrick Bourne and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon were offset by the additions of pass rusher Samson Ebukam and center Alex Mack.
