"The San Francisco 49ers are hiring former Jacksonville Jaguars special teams coordinator Nick Sorensen as a defensive assistant, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly," wrote Wilson.
Sorensen is a former NFL safety, playing for the then-St. Louis Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Cleveland Browns from 2001 through 2010. The Miami Dolphins signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech in 2001.
Sorensen's coaching career started as an assistant special teams coach with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013. He later served as an assistant defensive backs coach and a secondary coach with Seattle. As noted by Wilson, Sorensen spent this past season as the Jacksonville Jaguars' special teams coordinator.
