Schneider's hiring was among several coaching additions and title changes announced by the 49ers on Monday, including the recently-reported hiring of new quarterbacks coach Brian Griese and the addition of Anthony Lynn, who will serve as the assistant head coach and running backs coach.
The complete rundown of San Francisco's coaching changes can be found here.
Schneider, 50, has more than 12 years of experience as a special teams coordinator in the NFL. He served in the role with the Seattle Seahawks from 2010-20. Before that, Schneider spent one season (2009) as the special teams coordinator at the University of Southern California. His first NFL coach coaching job came as the special teams coordinator of the Oakland Raiders (2007-08).
Before entering the NFL coaching ranks, Schneider worked as a special teams/tight ends coach at Iowa State University (2006) after three seasons (2003-05) as a special teams/linebackers/safeties coach at UCLA. He started his coaching career as a special teams graduate assistant at Colorado State University (1994-96) and was later promoted to be the program's special teams coordinator/tight ends coach (1997-2002).
