The Detroit Lions made Tomlinson the No. 28 overall draft pick in 2015. San Francisco traded for the offensive lineman in 2017, and he became one of the team's most consistent players. Tomlinson started every game (80 starts) since Week 2 of the 2017 season.
Tomlinson, 30, was scheduled to become a free agent on Wednesday and was named to his first Pro Bowl this past season.
"I love it here," Tomlinson said of the 49ers after the season. "I kind of watched myself develop into the man, the player, the husband, and the father, the character that I am today, and it all started with getting traded here to the 49ers. I owe a lot of thank yous to a lot of people that had faith in me here. ... But I love it here, I always loved it here, and everyone's been great to me here."
Unfortunately for the 49ers, Tomlinson is out the door. The guard reunites with head coach Robert Saleh, offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, and offensive line coach John Benton—all former 49ers coaches—in New York.
