With the 2022 NFL Draft a day away, Samuel is voicing his opinion again, saying he's "[too] real to entertain" the speculation. Of course, as he stated before, no one except the two sides involved in the offseason drama knows what's really going on, and neither side is shedding any light on the situation. Naturally, that will lead to a lot of speculation.
Most consider the first round of the draft to be a key date regarding Deebo Samuel. The receiver has reportedly requested to be traded. Knowing how important Samuel is to the team and their second-year quarterback, Trey Lance, that's something the 49ers would like to avoid. However, if the team feels the two sides can't reach a resolution, they may entertain offers—assuming they are blown away by one.
One team that is armed to make an offer that would be tough to ignore is the New York Jets. They are considered the front-runners to acquire Samuel if he does leave the 49ers. The Jets own two first-round picks and five picks in the first three rounds.
If Samuel remains on the 49ers roster after tomorrow night, it's likely the team feels they can mend the relationship.
"I can't ever imagine wanting to move on from Deebo," general manager John Lynch said on Monday. "... you just don't let guys like that walk. I can't envision a scenario where we would."
