Frank Gore's NFL playing date may be behind him, but the future Hall of Fame running back is enjoying another passion—boxing. The San Francisco 49ers all-time rushing leader celebrated his 39th birthday on Saturday by knocking out Yaya Olorunsola in the fourth round during his pro boxing debut.

"Gore and Olorunsola were the co-main event on the Gamebred Boxing card in Biloxi, Mississippi," wrote Adam Wells of Bleacher Report. "This was the first professional boxing match of his career."

In April, Gore announced that he plans to retire with the 49ers this offseason and hopes to one day join an NFL front office—maybe even with San Francisco, the team that made him a third-round draft pick out of the University of Miami in 2005.


"Probably [will retire] in a couple of months," Gore told Heidi Watney during a Bovada Instagram interview. "We're still trying to figure out when I'm going to do my one-day contract [with the 49ers], to sign, do my retirement. I told [49ers CEO] Jed York that I always wanted to be a Niner, so we're working on that right now.

"And then we're going to also sit down, me and my agent, just talk about me working in the front office because I love looking at talent, and I love evaluating talent, and I love ball. And they know that I know football players, what it takes to be a football player."

In December, Gore made his pro boxing exhibition debut, losing to former NBA star Deron Williams.

Gore played 16 NFL seasons. He remains San Francisco's all-time leading rusher with 11,073 yards through 10 seasons with the team.

Gore ranks No. 3 all-time with exactly 16,000 rushing yards. Only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton rank above him. After his time with the 49ers, Gore played for the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets. He did not play in 2021.
