According to his agent, the San Francisco 49ers are signing tight end Tyler Kroft to a one-year deal. The news was first spotted and reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN. The team will need to make a corresponding roster move to make room for the signing.

Update: The 49ers officially announce the signing of Kroft. To make room on the roster, the team waived defensive lineman Chris Slayton, who signed a reserve/future contract on January 31.

News of the signing comes on the 49ers' first day of organized team activities. The team will hold its first practice today, with the first practice open to reporters coming on Tuesday.

The Cincinnati Bengals made Kroft (6-6, 252) a third-round selection (No. 85 overall) out of Rutgers in 2015. He registered 16 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown through nine game appearances (six starts) with the New York Jets in 2021, per Pro Football Reference.

Kroft, 29, has caught 101 passes for 1,024 yards and 13 touchdowns in 81 game appearances (48 starts) through his seven NFL seasons.
