Further contract details came out about McLaurin's deal, as Schefter revealed that the former Ohio State receiver got a $28 million signing bonus, which serves as the largest of all time by a receiver.
Additionally, McLaurin gets $53.154 million guaranteed, penciling right behind fellow fourth-year receiver A.J. Brown, who received a four-year, $100 million deal from the Philadelphia Eagles with $57 million guaranteed.
Here's the full contract details of both receivers' deals:
A.J Brown: four years, $100 million, $57 million guaranteed, $23.2 million signing bonus, and $40 million guaranteed at signing.
Terry McLaurin: three years, $71 million, $53.2 million guaranteed, $28 million signing bonus, and $34.6 million guaranteed at signing.
What does the McLaurin deal mean in terms of a potential extension for Deebo Samuel?
Over the offseason, there have been a number of talented receivers earning top-tier receiver money, ranging from Tyreek Hill to Davante Adams to the recent deals of Cooper Kupp and now Terry McLaurin.
While several of these deals have hit record numbers in terms of guaranteed money, average annual value, or money guaranteed at signing, the two most important deals in relation to Samuel are the rookie extensions of Brown and McLaurin.
Although Samuel will likely command more in guarantees and average annual value than the two receivers, it would be relatively lower numbers than some of the other major deals, such as Cooper Kupp's $80 million in guarantees.
Brown and McLaurin's contracts have now set a realistic baseline for Deebo Samuel's deal, and I'd expect a contract to be a four-year deal worth around $100-106 million, with $60-65 million guaranteed, $21-25 million as a signing bonus, and $42-47 million guaranteed at signing.
Nonetheless, another receiver domino has fallen, and Deebo Samuel extension should happen sooner than later as training camp approaches next month.
