The Niners entered the game without their two starting cornerbacks, Charvarius Ward and Emmanuel Moseley. Ward is dealing with what head coach Kyle Shanahan called a "muscle strain," while Moseley is sidelined with a hamstring strain. Also out due to injury to start the game is defensive lineman Arik Armstead (knee sprain) and running back Elijah Mitchell (hamstring).
Several 49ers players, including tight end George Kittle, tackle Trent Williams, running back Jeff Wilson, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, defensive linemen Nick Bosa, Samson Ebukam, and Charles Omenihu, and linebackers Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw and Azeez Al-Shaair were not suited up for the preseason opener. These were not necessarily due to injuries.
Below are the 49ers-Packers in-game injury updates.
DE Drake Jackson (shoulder, questionable)
The rookie defensive lineman exited the game in the second quarter with a shoulder injury. The injury came after Jackson showed off his speed, chasing down Packers quarterback Jordan Love. Team personnel examined Jackson in the blue medical tent before the defensive lineman left for the locker room.
The 49ers later announced that Jackson is questionable to return. Of course, being preseason, Jackson's night is likely done.
Shanahan later said that Jackson is dealing with a shoulder stinger and will undergo further tests.
CB Dontae Johnson (rib)
Johnson went down in the fourth quarter but was able to get up, walk off the field without assistance, and make his way to the blue medical tent. The 49ers later announced that the cornerback was being evaluated for a concussion but then corrected themselves to say that it was actually a rib injury.
