Purdy wasn't sure if he would get to play, knowing the plan was to give Sudfeld a long look. So he was more excited than nervous when he finally had his number called in the fourth quarter.
"I just went out there, and I wanted to show the guys I can compete, and I can lead and offense, and things like that," Purdy, the final selection of the 2022 NFL Draft, told reporters in the locker room after the game. "Yeah, I just went out, and I had fun, and did what the coaches asked of me."
Purdy added: "Just being out there, I was like, 'Man, I'm in an NFL stadium, wearing a 49ers logo, an NFL logo. I'm like, 'This is crazy. It's everything that I dreamed of.'"
Purdy admitted that there were some butterflies in his stomach as he entered the game.
"I'm not going to lie," he said. "I was like, 'Man, this is real.' But I was honestly more excited just to go prove myself to my teammates. The first three quarters, when I didn't know I was going in, I was like, 'OK, I don't know.' But when the fourth quarter rolled around, I was like, 'Let's go.' I was ready."
Purdy finished the night 3-of-6 for 36 yards and his touchdown pass to tight end Tanner Hudson. He immediately followed that with a successful two-point conversion pass to wide receiver KeeSean Johnson.
