"Specifically, your pants failed to cover the knee area," wrote NFL Vice President of Football Compliance Akil Coad in the letter. "Rule 5, Section 4, Article 3, Item (4) of the 2022 Official Playing Rules of the National Football League states that pants must be worn over the entire knee area; pants shortened or rolled up to meet the stockings above the knee are prohibited."
Coad added: "In accordance with the document entitled '2022 GAME-RELATED DISCIPLINE', which was among the playbook materials distributed to you earlier this season, the League is imposing on you a fine of $5,305."
Ouch.
Odum can appeal the fine, though, and hopefully, get it retracted. The safety was a bit confused by the notification because he doesn't believe he violated the rule and even shared a photo of himself from the game—along with the full letter from Coad.
The 49ers signed Odum to a three-year deal on March 22. He was credited with a tackle, a pass defensed, and an interception this past weekend against the Vikings. The pick came during the opening drive of the game.
