The 49ers have one more full practice before Sunday's game, a typically lighter Friday session.
Kittle has not practiced since suffering a groin strain on September 5. The 49ers were without their All-Pro tight end in their Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears.
San Francisco is looking to rebound on Sunday at Levi's Stadium, and they hope to do so with Kittle on the field. He has missed 12 games since 2020, including this past weekend's Week 1 contest.
"He's made progress, so hopefully, we'll have better luck this week," head coach Shanahan said on Wednesday.
One teammate who would be ecstatic to get Kittle back in the lineup is second-year quarterback Trey Lance, who will be making his fourth career NFL start and second start at home.
"I mean, everyone can see what he does with the ball in his hands," Lance said on Wednesday. "People don't always see what he does in the run game and just from an energy standpoint, for sure, so it will be great to get him back if we can get him back this week."
