Trey Lance went down late in the first quarter of the San Francisco 49ers' 27-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks. It was an injury so concerning that the second-year quarterback couldn't make it off the field on his own. He tried to get up, but pressure on his right leg, and immediately went back down to the turf.

There was a great deal of concern from his teammates for Lance as he was carted off the field and into the locker room for further tests. The 49ers later announced that Lance was ruled out due to an ankle injury.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Lance's season may be over. The quarterback is expected to require surgery, likely ending his season. So it will probably be Jimmy Garoppolo's job moving forward.

Garoppolo, who was re-signed to a restructured one-year deal before the start of the season, replaced Lance against Seattle, completing 13 of 21 pass attempts for 154 yards, a touchdown, and a passer rating of 100.1. Garoppolo also had a rushing touchdown late in the game. Lance completed two of his three pass attempts for 30 yards before his injury.
