"The swelling's pretty bad," Shanahan explained Monday during a conference call. "Usually high ankles are usually, just for everyone, they say four to six [weeks], but sometimes it can be sooner. Sometimes it can be longer. So that's why I didn't give an exact date. It's too early to tell."
Jaylon Moore stepped in for one drive after Williams' injury. Unfortunately, that didn't go so well, leading to Colton McKivitz replacing Moore.
McKivitz will likely be the starting left tackle until Williams can return.
"I'd expect McKivitz to go," Shanahan said. "That's probably what would have happened last week from the beginning if he didn't get dinged up in practice and missed all those reps."
McKivitz was listed as "questionable" to play in Denver due to an ankle injury.
"But most likely, it will be that, and hopefully, we can get [Daniel Brunskill] back to possibly help us out inside," Shanahan added.
During his limited snaps, Moore earned a dismal 28.6 overall grade from Pro Football Focus. It was the game's lowest individual grade. McKivitz did better, earning a 66.6 overall grade from the analytics site for his 11 snaps of work against the Broncos.
