Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters after the Kansas City Chiefs routed the 49ers. While the head coach searched for answers on why his team had such a disappointing performance, he provided updates on two key injuries.
They weren't in-game injuries, though. First, a reporter asked Shanahan about Azeez Al-Shaair, who suffered an MCL sprain during Week 3's loss to the Denver Broncos. Will the injured linebacker have an opportunity to return after the team's bye week?
"I don't think right after the bye," Shanahan said. "I think he's got a couple of more weeks on that. Him and Elijah kind of had the same injury. I just think Elijah's a couple of weeks ahead of him."
Shanahan, referring to Elijah Mitchell, has previously said that he expects the second-year running back to return after the bye week. Mitchell also suffered an MCL sprain, but as the coach noted, his took place in Week 1.
Shanahan was also asked about Jason Verrett. Do they plan to activate the cornerback off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list this week?
"I'm not sure," Shanahan responded.
The team must decide this week whether to activate the cornerback. He will need to sit out the remainder of the season if they don't. Verrett is attempting to return from the ACL injury he suffered during Week 1 last season.
