San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans didn't want to provide too many details on the progress of cornerback Jason Verrett.

"Jason's done good," Ryans said after Thursday's practice. "Opened his window. Happy to just have him back out there, seeing him working. It's great. Always great to have Jason back out there."

The 49ers activated Verrett off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list this week, expecting the veteran cornerback to contribute this season. He has to string together solid practices before that can happen, though. Even if he is healthy, he still needs to get into game shape and mentally prepare himself for action.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan joined KNBR after practice and was asked how Verrett has looked this week.

"He had a much better week this week," Shanahan said on the Tolbert & Copes show. "By far, his best one out of the three weeks [since his practice window opened]. We haven't decided yet [whether he will play], so I don't have a status report on him. But I can tell you it's been better than the last two weeks."

The 49ers travel to SoFi Stadium this weekend to face the Los Angeles Rams. That game will be on artificial turf. The team may wait until after the bye against the Los Angeles Chargers at Levi's Stadium, which will be on grass, to throw Verrett into a game.
